Just pick one and tell why, quit your bitchin Auto because when the zombies come I want to be shooting and not shifting. HAHAHHA. Also, I voted Auto, as I don't know how to drive standard.

What is with everyone thinking standards are faster. The best standard trans vs. the best auto trans = the auto will always always always be faster than the fastest shifting human in the world. Not a single person in this thread said that.

Stick. I feel more in touch with the vehicle and it is much more fun to drive which helps keep me awake on long drives. Since I go to MA all the time the fun/alertness factor is important. I definitely prefer the standard in the snow for the control of the shifting.

I prefer my standard for DD except during traffic. Standard is more difficult in the rocks but deeper gears help that.

Not a single person in this thread said that. "Standard = more fun, faster, better mileage, less likely to break, easier to fix if it breaks, cheaper to replace if it's totally hosed " I did say everyone when it was only really one person so you got me there...

there talking about drivetrain loss an auto has more hp loss from the drivetrain to the wheels as in a standard there is less of a loss Exactly. Automatics eat horsepower. It gets lost sloshing all the fluid around in the torque converter. Plus with a manual the driver can downshift when approaching corners, something an automatic can't do. Even though the auto can shift faster the car with the manual will cover the course faster with a skilled driver at the controls because it should already in the right gear at the right time. If you want to get into hardcore racing equipment a sequential manual will shift faster than an automatic and doesn't have any of the drawbacks of the automatic. Not as much fun though.

Ok so 1 person I'm pretty sure you said not a SINGLE person so to you, i clearly mentioned that i messed up saying everyone when there was only one. As far as the post above i agree with you as far as manuals being better for track/street cars, but most of us offroad so lets talk about that considering i can't think of very many reasons you would ever want a standard in offroad driving. And no i don't want to hear the "its more fun" arguements because everybody has their own opinion of fun and that isn't an arguement at all. I'm no expert on this subject so don't quote me on this, this is just what ive heard from others. If i get stuck in a mud/water hole in my AW4 i can go forward/reverse as many times as i wan't to get myself un-stuck. You don't have the luxury of doing that in your standard.

auto for offroad has advantages over a manual.
you control your speed offroad with an auto too, its called 1st gear...
