I like having the auto in the XJ and the 5-speed in the TJ. wheeling i will take the auto any day, but around town or if i had a fast car is would definitely be manual. so basically, its about where i am and what im driving and ill have a preference. However, I think im gonna vote auto cuz there are times when im not in the mood to deal with shifting, like sitting in traffic with andrews Dodge for an hour

Standard = more fun, faster, better mileage, less likely to break, easier to fix if it breaks, cheaper to replace if it's totally hosed

standards while wheeling tend to put more of a shock load on the drivetrain. snaped driveshafts and acksle shafts

I prefer having auto for one car but if I had multiple cars I would have a manual in the other car as it would be a something sporty ie 3 series/m3, s4, r32. As far as a jeep I would prefer an auto as I feel safer offroad w/o worrying about a clutch. My next car I am going to probably have to get in auto so the future mrs. will be able to use it too.

I prefer Standard.
I feel I have more control with one, I have more fun in them, I like "feeling" like im driving. and every auto Ive ever owned somehow figures out a way to piss me off.
Im about to drive the SiS-160 off a damn cliff.

in my xj i love the auto. i like to race around and do burnouts and stuff so its a little bit easier. but if i had a tj with the 4.0 i would withought a doubt want a manual it would be more fun in the woods and around town. but for me to get a manual i would need to have two vehicles.

What is with everyone thinking standards are faster. The best standard trans vs. the best auto trans = the auto will always always always be faster than the fastest shifting human in the world.

there talking about drivetrain loss
an auto has more hp loss from the drivetrain to the wheels as in a standard there is less of a loss

In my wheeling rig, auto all day everyday no question. In a car that i drive around town for fun like a muscle car or sti i would go manual just because its more fun. I like to try the most technical trails i can offroad so stick is just more of a hassle in my jeep than anything. AW4 FTW. don't you roll much? you can like measure your lift in feet Alright i think everybody has given me enough crap about my lift, i have said numerous times its not what i'm going to be running. No you can't measure my lift in feet, 1 foot=12 inches not 8. And no actually i have never rolled.
