Well….. I’ve been around the site for a little and I thought I would start a thread about my xj build up from its beginning to present.
here is a quick run through
this is how it looked about a year ago when i picked it up.
then i got a set of 30 inch m/t s and threw them on.
soon after i put on a rustys three inch kit. and got a set of 32s...
i ran this set up for about 6 months with only a couple little mods, and beet the ever living hell out of it. until i picked up my new jeep and decided the blue xj was gonna be a project.
so i striped it down..
found my rust
then i decided to notch the back
I also had a half cage mocked up at the time but decided i was going to be doing alot of other changes to it, and scratched that plan. then it sat for a couple of months while i got some other projects done, and then i decided i was going to get back to work on it this past week.
i started off the week by getting the rust holes patched up. i feel im pretty lucky i only had a small amount on my floor boards.
then patched where i cut the roof.
then i got the whole suspension ripped out and waited till this weekend for warmer weather...
This is when i got a little happy with the cutting wheel and sawzall.
First went the rockers where it awaits some box tubing.
then i went to rip the front fenders off to where i would be cuttign them up to fit the box tubing.
decided to relocate the battery to the back...
then after doing a bunch of other little things that wasted time me and some friends were talking about how it would be cool to narrow the front end seeing as we already ripped out the a.c. junk, battery, and airbox. i finally got talked into "dovetailing the front"
first off...
i had to break all the pinch welds on the on the outer piece
then we just got a little creative and just started cutting wherever it looked good... we cut the inner finder down the seem to relocate over to the frame rail.
after moving it over to the frame rail we just stared cutting and folding then lower section to meet back up with teh newly positioned fender wall.
after alot of pinching and welding we arrived at something like this.
after a little black primer
its hard to tell but it actually pinched the nose over ten inches.
and this is where we stopped for the day.
when all is said and done i plan to be running full width axels with roughly 4-5 inches of lift. hopefully i will be able to finish up the front tomorrow.
questions and comments are well appreciated....
