Ever run out of gas?

My brother ran out of gas tonight on the highway. The needle isn'y broken. There has never been an issue with the guages or the thing in the tank.

How does one run out of gas? Do you not look at the dashboard of the vehicle your driving for such an extended period of time that your totally oblivious?

Do you get on the highway knowing you've got to drive a shitload of miles with 1/4 tank?

my fuel gauge reads 1/2-1/4 tank low. i was below E and drove around for a few days like that and filled up a couple hours ago. tank took 14.5 gallons. ive run out of gas 5 or 6 times. this is my second gauge btw, and the pump/sender was put in new after i bought the jeep.

Never run out of gas before. When my gas light is on I know I have about 3 gallons left.

Ive ran out of gas. I was ridiculously low on gas, and I was on my way to the gas station when it ran out. I was on the highway, I pulled over , luckily for me, I was only 2 miles from home and my sister brought me gas.


On my way back to VA from CT during xmas, I was in Maryland and I looked down and my gas light was on, and I was like oh shit, better get gas soon. I just spaced off and kept driving, probably for another 20 miles when I was like oh shit, im about to run out, and I pulled off and got gas. I can go 100 miles on a 1/4 tank.

I've never run out but i've come close. Couple times i was late for work and the gas light was on and i said ahh fuck it ill get it after. Barely made it to the pump.

The XJ's tank is half a tank off. when it reads empty, I still have 10 gallons left.

The Wagoneer's gas gauge doesn't even work. I record my mileage and gas level on a notepad in the center console.

I've never run dry.

i've run out of gas plenty. i've also had many broken gauges in different cars. once i got a detention at school for being late cause i ran out on the way

I can understand if your guage is broke or what not. Maybe I just look at the guages a lot because I'm used to being paranoid about my jeep overheating from the begining of thie summer.

i havent yet.....almost did once cause the sending unit was broken on the dodge. but i made it to the station. that woulda sucked to get started again cause i woulda had to crack open the injectors and bleed the air out.

Your brother would do that Adam! lol How in the world did he pull that off especially in a car that didnt have a problem w/ the gas gauge.

I've run out before in hs. My old car was an audi and didnt have a gas light so basically when it got down to the red zone i would know to fill up (but i would always fill up before that). One day on my way to school i was just at the start of the red zone on the gauge an i was about 100 ft from school an it started puttering an i thought it was so strange. So after school one day i got a ride w/ one of my friends, filled a gas tank and poured enough gas into my car so i could drive to the mini mart up the street from the school. Needless to say my new car has a light now.

The GMC didnt have a low gas light so I learned that the hard way. I was on my road coming home about a mile from my house when I first stalled out and stopped. I was at the top of the hill too. What sucked is I stalled right next to a landscape truck with 6 gas cans lined up on it, but I was too scared to ask for gas from them. Also, if i went another 1/4 mile I would be able to coast all the way to my house. I luckily was able to get it started and go enough to coast down the hill all the way to my house and i rolled into my driveway. I went to get the lawnmower gas, gave it a gallon or two and went to the gas station. from then on i calculated it by mileage and never used the guage

no miraculously i had a gas jug in my jeep and i went and got two dollars worth of gas put it in my tank and drove to the gas station.

I ran out of gas once like a year ago in the god damn Volvo.... I was about 1/4 mile from a gas station on the Merrit as I was driving home, found out later the gas gauge says its got 1/8 of a tank when its empty.
