i will always lock the rear first of any jeep i drive Pretty sure the overwheeeling majority of people do. You have front end on rock face, rear end in hole. Rear end need traction. Lock rear first. Oh yea... wouldn't want over 33s with a locked front either. (Assuming by his sig that he has D30) Thread /

And I most likely won't go bigger than 33's for a while but if I break it it gives me an excuse to get a front 44

i have the rear locked with an aussie and I could not be happier. it performs amazing offroad when I need it too and on road it is more than manageable. I think that you will need the rear locked more than the front also. however, I have no experience with just a front locker. just going by what I know

You WILL hear the front locker a lot more being in the front than in the rear from what I've heard riding in different peoples jeeps. You WILL notice the front locker on the street more than you will the rear locker. You WILL not like having a front locker while driving in slippery conditions for the simple tire locking up reason alone. The rear locker doesn't seem to have this problem.
Just get a rear one, especially for a daily driven jeep. You also WILL notice a front locker on sharp turns when it's making grinding noises. I've experienced it. Take from it what you want but you seem to already have made up your mind.

i have a spool rear detroit in front, i drive with my hubs locked in the snow, just incase i need it.
i deliver fucking pizza with this setup, and not once has it put me in a dangerous situation. in fact i enjoy it because it makes whipping the ass end around corners more fun.
the detroit up front doesnt make a single noise. the only time i hear it is when i have both tires off the ground and i turn the tires by hand.
as for the offroad debate, when climbing a hill, think of where the weight is distributed, to the back end, if anything i would want more tires spinning back there than up front.

Well, my question would be, how many people have only done the front, and then only done the rear (or the other way around), so that one person can speak from experience one both accounts? This is something I have been wondering about for a bit, but I have no idea about lockers, or the effects on a DD.

I would NOT want a front locker on a daily driven vehicle.

i had my front locked and my rear unlocked for a run.
and i had my rear locked and one of my front shafts snape'd for a run.
both setups sucked when im used to having 2 lockers, but i would rather have a rear locker over a front based on this experience

Why bother asking if your mind is already set?

I agree that when you are assending up something, the weight transfer is in the rear and you would want to have that locked. All I was saying is that in my experience, the front worked great. Im not saying better or worse that just a locked rear, just it worked out fine....Plus there was no way I was ever going to lock a D35.
