so yea i wheeled this old girl at RC and it was a blast but did have some problems. The starter broke the second day and i was able to rig it to get about a dozen starts. The next day I broke a leaf spring going through one of the rock gardens, but was able to keep going thanks to good ol military wrap. Sucked in some water going from the power lines into the west property i think it was and hydro locked the engine. Pulled the plugs and used my final start to spin the engine over to get the water out. Pop started it with the winch and got back to camp and put it on the trailer. It was a good time and hopefully ill have it back on the road next week

Powerlines... Hmmm. The one with the warning that its 4/5 feet deep? near it... but not that exact one. i didnt go through that one but i did go through the one next to it after my friends egged me on and i didnt have any problem. The deep on was definately not 4-5 probably like 3 feet deep, maybe its deeper in the spring or something. The one i hydro locked on was entering a blue or black trail off the powerlines close to that hole. There wasnt a go around. off topic but my friend backed into lake cristy to see how deep it was, and got stuck, the water was up to the seats, i was riding with him and i was out on the hood rigging up winch cables, it took 3 winch lines and some strategious positioning to get him out. Its basically like quick sand

the retaining ring on the nose of the starter broke so i welded it on. unfortunately the heat damaged the spring on the bendix so eventually it jammed up the starter gear. got me an extra day of wheeling tho. i can still pop start it in low range with the winch... tomorrow im going to get a new bendix from clarkson electric in new haven

heres some pics from RC, altho most of them are on my friends cameras "fixing" the starter this is the welder i brought, miller roughneck gas drive from 1972 also used to make coffee every morning as shown here heres a couple pics "rock crawling" right before my rear spring broke the rig job to get it back to camp thanks to miliraty wrapped springs, it could have definatley been worse

well welding the starter ended up being somewhat of a mistake, i wound up needing a fairly rare armature for my starter as well, after a month of waiting all the parts were in and Clark-Son rebuilt it. My hats off to them, and I highly recommend them for any job like this Rebuilt Starter (looks new) Springs I decided to try to fix the broken spring on my own, and I was successful, I heated it with a torch then welded it and allowed it to cool slowly and evenly and I have put some miles on it with no problems. Additionally I took both rear spring packs apart and sanded and painted every leaf and applied a thin layer of copper never seize between all the leafs. I replaced all the bushings and put on new shackles with new zerk fittings. A noticable difference in ride quality. Drove it throughout labor day weekend (Saturday night on) Pivot Eye bushings (front) New OEM style shackles with Bronze Bushings Installed
