I just bought a stock '99 for a good price, so I'm getting rid of the '88 project rig i just bought thats got 32's on it and keeping the tires, and using the $$ i get from it to buy my lift. I'm looking to get $600 from the sale, and the tires are 32 bfg mt's, worn down to about 50%. I'd get new tires too, but i dont have the $$ rite now, maybe next summer or spring. Anyway, I need help deciding on what lift to get. I'm torn between the RE 3.5 inch Superride, which I was quoted at $712 shipped w/ shocks, or the 4.5" RC kit with shocks for $570 shipped. (Both kits w/ fullpacks in the rear). I don't have the $$ for an SYE rite now, but someone at DC4WD is swearing I wont need one as long as i put in 2.5 degree spacers and tcase drop. He says he's been doin it for 10 years so I dunno, I was under the impression that I'd need one for 4.5". I guess the RE will ride close to 4"anyway? I know the RE is better, but thats $150 of gas money too, which I'm def gonna need for commuting this semester. I may pick up some 31" bfg mts from a friend with around 60% left for when i'm commuting to save the 32's for a little longer, and he'd give them to me for like $150, so i could use that money there too. What do you guys think?
-Go with the 3.5" RE
-Or the 4.5" RC and some 31" mts with the shims and tcase drop

Do yourself a favor. Go with the RE. I didnt, then ended up buying RE parts later.

well i have a 6" lift in my XJ and still havent gotten an SYE for the same reason... but i have those angled spacers and a 1" t-case drop and i havent had any major problems... the output shaft seal from the t-case is leaking a little bit but thats at the very top of the case with the way its mouted... and after seeing sam pull a dry drain plug out of his transfercase (same NP231) before the mabell trail and not destroy it with what he did that day.... im not worried

I say just keep surfing all the classified sections of all the forums for used parts and piece something together. That way you'll save $ and you can consider many different optins.

I have been lookin for a while, but havent been able to find quite everything I want to part together a lift. I foud some new 4" Rough Country Springs, fullpacks, and shocks for $300, but then when i factor in new tracbar, brakelines, control arms, and shipping etc im up there with $$ again. Imjust gonna get a kit and get it done with. Ive been waitin a year and a half since i totaled my old xj, i cant wait any longer!

HAha, right after I post, I find this jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=449102Rustys 4.5 inch with leafs, coils, shocks, and swaybar and brake drop brackets. What do you think? dont know the miles or anything on it, but he wants $550 shipped. Whats better, RC or Rustys? Im thinkin for that price, I can just get the RC kit brand new... |

Get the RE 3.5" sf, put 2" spacers and run 32s or 33s on it wiht a t case drop until you can sye it. I have the re 5.5" with 1" t case drop and 35's and i have wheeled with the club 2 times now w/o any issues until i get my gears and sye. I have very little vibs.

not enogh for the superflex, tho thats what i really wanted  RE ride pretty high anyway right? So i figure ill have no problems with their 3.5 and some trimmin for 32's |

Listen I got my superflex arms from someone for like 60-80 bucks a while back, cleaned them up, threw new grease in and done.

man oh man do i love that old xj of urs kyle. wish i coulda bought it.
a lot of times what places tell u that ucan fit maximum as far as tires on certain lifts, are not completly right. with the right modifications anything can be done. i have a 3" RC lift with 33s, just had to trim the fenders and get wheel spacers or backspaced wheels. with that kit which costs like $250, the only thing ull need is a trac bar and possibly some brake like drops or something. with the RC 4.5 you can run 33s no problem, even 35s. i run stock lines. no tcase drop. on 3" lift with 33s with little vibes that are due to my horribly worn MTRs. Its nice if u have the money to go for the RE kits when ur first starting but for guys like me, and a lot of the guys on here, its hard to do that. so start small, then work ur way to ur ideal set up.
