On our way to Seven Springs resort to go snowboarding today we're driving down the road and we get behind this Hyundai Sonata. First thing i noticed was his blinker was on but there weren't any turns coming up. Then I see him start to wander back and forth in his lane. Then he pulls hard into oncoming traffic and comes back narrowly missing a car head on. I told my friend driving to hang back as far as he could, Traffic was really bad plus we were in construction. So we're behind him a little ways and this dude is just wandering all over, blinker still on, just driving crazy.
He veers hard again into oncoming traffic and the car coming at him, swerves to the right and over corrects and almost hits us head on. We follow him for a couple more miles, speeds up, slows down, wanders, blinker on, almost hits oncoming traffic a couple more times.
I called 911 and a PA state trooper comes and pulls him over. But Now i feel bad because i probably just totally screwed this guys life over, even though i know I did the right thing and probably even saved someone from wrecking into this guy.

That's the price when you gamble with drinking and driving I have called the cops on two people falling asleep at the wheel, and one drunk driver, I never felt guilty about it. I love driving and I like to drink, but I never combine the two (except once at a go-cart track late at night )

The cop gave me a second chance... Made me call my mom but didnt arrest me or give me a ticket. I learned my lesson, but i know other people dont get as lucky which is why i feel guilty.

Yeah, dude, I wouldn't feel bad. You may prevent him from driving for a long time but at least he won't be taking any lives.

dont feel bad you probably ended up saving that guy. his life would be even more screwed up if he ended up killing someone.

My mother was nearly killed by a drunk driver so I have no tolerance for such behavior. If I see you swerving and acting like you are impaired I will call. Do not feel bad you probably saved a life.

Hardly. If anything you've started a series of events that will lead him to help further down the road. Either 6 months of jail time if he does it again or rehab.
Feel bad for them? What are you some bleeding heart? I have no sympathy for those who endanger others on public motorways.

I think you did the right thing as it sounds like this guy was on his way to hurting himself and others.
Unfortunately, over the years I have known and known of many people getting DUIs and the system is still very lax. Many of these people end up getting multiple DUIs, continue drinking and driving after loosing their license, and never change their behavior - even after ARD, fines, and a short stint in jail.
