Hi all. My TJ has had a VERY slight ticking noise coming from the engine ever since I bought it. With the stereo off you can make it out. It does not change whether I'm on the gas or off, or if I push in the clutch, so I know it's motor related.....and no, it's not a rock in the tire either, haha. It gets faster paced when reving the motor.....Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if it's just a normal noise on the 4.0's? If standing outside the jeep and reving it, you can't make it out either......just basically when I'm inside driving it.

could be valves ticking a bit, or maybe a slight exhaust leek on the header like mine
run her till it blows, lol
or just check re tighten teh valves and see if that does it away,

my friend restored a YJ and the thing was mint but it always had a lifter tick that pissed him off. We'd be driving and he'd get pissed and throw it in neutral and bounce it off rev limiter. He sold it earlier this year. this was an absolutely useless post and i apologize.

i thought this was something common among all 4.0's. mine has always had the light ticking but i wouldnt worry about it.

my tick is rediculously loud, mostly due to the cracked manifold. i wouldn't worry about it

Yea, I didn't think it was anything serious, just wanted to see if any other jeep owners had a similiar tick, and it sounds like a few of you do. doesn't bother me since 99% of the time, my stereo is on. I won't worry about it too much, and yes, I'll drive it till it blows, and then probably put another motor in haha. |
