pick up a set of front seats. take out the back seat and put in new front seats. so basically have 4 individual seats instead of 2 and a bench.....maybe a center console as well, with cup holders?

that is a really cool idea especially with a center console in the back. you would of course lose the middle seat though (obviously) and lose cargo room since they wouldn't fold flat like the bench did. maybe a set of rear folding mini van seats would work??

Its been done before. I ran into a guy today at the junkyard that did it. He used sunfire seats. It looked really good.

Too much work reworking the floor and everything. Yeah it would be different but I don't think the "cool" factor outweighs the work to lose rear visibility and the space since you'll no longer be able to fold it out of the way. One of the best parts of XJs is the visibility all around and with two buckets blocking out the rear you'll barely see out.

I have a build thread discussing how i want to do this to my 98 xj. I am just waiting till i find a matching set of wj seats to throw back there, it will work i measured you just need to fab up brackets for it and basically make the floor level from the downward curve to the lip nder the front of the bottom coution.

Yeah...my rear seats are folded down for cargo room.

you could use low back seats instead full captains chairs, i dont think the minivan seats would work, theyre too tall. you could also instead of bolting the seats into the brackets that you'll have to make just put pull pins with cotters on the end like you have for your hitch so that you dont lose cargo space
