well ive been busy over the past month or so, many of you might not know me , i am a new member and i am friends with owen aka onetonflattie.......and my parents own welder repair and rental service in durham
ever since high school i have built and wheeled this suburban and have had lots of fun with it. However, between insurance prices (9passenger) and wheeling getting more technical, tighter and farther distances away(trailer required) ....having the suburban as a wheeling vehicle is unpractical in my eyes
SO i aquired this 89 yj with a salvage title that was rearended for 300 dollars (the one on the right)
i also found a 81 cj-7 that was unsalvagable but i got the title, vin tags, hardtop, doors, and a cool plastic jaz racing seat along with a dana 300 of course... this ended up being a screw show to get but was pretty good fun for a snowy saturday!
so far i have dimantled the yj and scrapped what was left to the cj-7
i am going to register it as an 81 cj-7 but it will have the yj tub frame with cj nose and tailgate
for drivetrain i am running the 350tbi from my suburban with an sm465-dana 300 (twin sticked) with a novak adapter. For axles i am using the ones from the suburban, they include a dana 60 with 4.56 gears, high steer, hydraulic assist, and a detroit locker. The rear is a corp 14 bolt with disc brakes and a detroit as well. Both axles were from a 86 cucv military truck that i got from georgia about 4 years ago (i was nuts) but it was a fun trip down there after all was said and done.
the wheelbase im shooting for is around 102-105"
here is the setup sitting with no weight in it with xj rear springs and j10 fronts at 102" with half tons!
over spring break i got i good start on tearing down things and fixing the frame since it was bent in the rear from the accident.
i ended up pulling out the frame with my suburban when it was still assembled by chaining the front of the jeep frame to a tree and pulling the rear with the weight of the suburban.
here is how it sits on the full width axles and with the wheels that were on the suburban.
this is the rear shackle setup with the new bumper/ crossmember with the cj tailgate. I had to move in the body mounts for the comp cut as well.....
these are the hummer rims mounted with the runflats cut off and thickness of the beadlock part has been flycut so i can mount the tires on the rims This will keep the tires more inward because of the 7" bs.
anyways thats about it for now let me know what you all think!
