i wanna do something really simple just to bring rigidity back to the jeep. not really looking for a lot of roll over protection in this initial design. I have no real vague idea of the length of tubing/pipe i should be buying. i know it always is more than you think. would 50-60 feet suffice for a job like this or similar to this? (dave? )

50/60 would be plenty.
full intricate 6-8 point xj cages use anywhere from 80 to 100 feet.
and dont use pipe, that shit is for carrying liquids places. use some DOM

and i should add that it would be smart to triangulate that. triangles are stronger than cubes.
perhaps tie in the "cubed" portion to the far rear of the cargo area as well, to add even more rigidy.

i know all about tube structure and triangulation, but i figured im only making up for a lack of link between the pillers it wouldnt be mandatory.
i dont think i need to go DOM on a project like this. you dont think hrew or sch40 is up to a task like this?
i really dont want a gaudy cage and i want an open air roof, trying to keep it as subtle as i can, i dont plan to wheel the piss outta this or anything

i would add like 5 feet and make some triangles what's it gonna hurt?. a cube isnt going to add much structural integrity.
fuck pipe.
but i wouldnt hesitate to use hrew seeing you want to keep this cheap.

Will measure what you think you need and then add 10 feet. DOM is expensive, good luck with that.

"i really dont want a gaudy cage and i want an open air roof, trying to keep it as subtle as i can, i dont plan to wheel the piss outta this or anything" I thought DM was gonna be a beater trail rig, hence the reason you bought a cheap xj and hacked it etc? Doesent that require wheeling and beating teh piss out of it?

DM was never intended to be a beater trail rig through its purchase, planning, or existance.
