Hey guys i havent been on much this week cause ive been stewin up my new and completely 100% custom design for a rear tire carrier. What i did was 2" square tube for the carrier and i made the cuts around a toolbox im making and mounting on the swing out portion of the carrier. For the actual bumper itself i sheared and bent a piece of 1/4 plate into somewhat the shape it is now. Then i heated up the ends and bent them in, to give it a little flare. Just a little extra design so it aint so plain jane. welded it all up sanded it clean. CALLED IT A DAY. i mounted it to the rear crossmember with 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" x 3/8" fully welded to the underside of the plate bumper. for the actual spindle, i took a piece of 1 1/2" round solid steel and cut it through the bumper on the underside so that the 2" square tube sits over that and pivits. has absolutely no left to right slop. but once its painted i am going to grease the inside of the square tube to allow it to pivit easier. the "handle" persay i took a spring and a couple washers welded on the top and bottom of a piece of channel iron and in doing that u can pull the spring up and that will release the carrier. its kinda hard to explain but once i get pics up u will see.

Just a thought to add on the hinge. You might consider drilling and tapping a small hole in the hinge and installing a grease fitting. Just my $ .02

Your gonna get pulled over for obstruction of your plate. Nice work though.

na instead of moving the plate i think i'd be easier to reconstruct the entire bumper/carrier to make leeway for the plate
