Yeah, I'd hate to shit in your cheerios, but I think Mike has a point. Most Differential guards cover the entire bottom half.

i'm gonna have to parially disagree with you gentlemen
there are plenty of aftermarket rock rings that look like this, only difference he didnt create an actual rign around the wholke cover where the bolts go, which could be beneficial to add anyway

I'm only concerned with protecting the ring gear with this guard. Any hit to the right of the ring, below the fill plug, will most likely catch the housing just after and prevent penetration anyway. Anything higher will hit the tie rod first. It'll be fine.

I placed an order withg MAD4WD.com in late August for three Dana 30 Rockcrusher diff covers. I spoke to them last week and the order is still not in so I told them to cancell the order. Anywho, I'm glad I didn't end up getting one because cast diff covers are only asking for trouble. If I really get worried about this front one, I'll buy a 1/4" thick forged one like I have in the rear.

what's so bad about cast diff covers? cracking as opposed to denting?

Yeah I have one like that, but 1/4", in the rear. It paid for itself this weekend. It's the one on eBay sometimes where the excavator is standing on it. Cast can shatter and then you're screwed which is why I like the forged ones.
