I know many people are against it.
But.... hear me out .
Depending on how well my jeep does or doesnt do at Mohawk, i was thinking of getting my rear end welded up for when i go to MaBell so i can do some of the harder stuff.
I have the 27 8.25 which is weak, but if I am not driving like a dick head, and take it easy on the gas, how will it hold up?
I have a another rear end ( same one ) if i had to swap it out , and i have 2 spare axle shafts as well.
What do you think?

tire life is not a worry, and how annoying does it get? just tires squealing?
i could just swap in my open carrier if it got bad.
my real worries are will my shafts be prone to more breakage on 33's and locked?

well it just got annoying for me in parking lots always having my tires chriping everywhere, i had it like that for 6 months of a lot of daily driving. also my rear BFGs were basically wasted. but anyway as far as breakage is concerned, that all depends how you look at it, a locker can both increase, and decrease stress. having a locker, there will be less 'shock load', meaning there wont be a time when youre spinning one tire like a bat outta hell and then have it grab and then a shock force is applied and a shaft is grenaded. lockers typically produce less tire spin, which can in turn be thought of as less stress (at least shock-wise). Butttttt if youre in a situation where a tire's wedged or in a really tough spot with the jeeps weight on it (see: doug's jeep on committed ), its going to want to spin no matter what, thus increasing chance of a shaft break.

I bent my axle tube smashing it against rocks @mabell, which is what caused the axle shaft to break the spool. I agree with Will on the less tire spin... I can crawl up rocks nice and slow, but on the road its not like driving a normal vehicle. Without the spool in there on the way home... it was soooo smooth, but I like it being locked all the time since the vehicle is not my DD.
