Ok so some guy gave me an 8.8 for free, disc brakes, 3.73 gearing.
~150 for M.O.R.E bracket kit
I can get a XJ d44 for 200 dollars with 3.55 gearing and I have a d30 with 3.55 to match it as temporary replacement until i can regear.
Spend money on d44 to gear and lock or go with the 8.8 help me choose.

Um, you dont need the fucking MORE kit dude.
Take the leaf spring mounts off the bottom of the 8.8, and just cut them off and weld them to the top.
Then since you are like a personal junkyard, cut off the shock mounts on one of your other axles, and mount them on the 8.8 asd well.
Then done.
Wleding wont cost you nearly as much as a fucking 44.
So lets see..
44 - 200, then disk brakes are like another 150 at the junkyard, THEN, the 8.8 is a stronger axle.
Rock out with the ford.

OHH and regardless of what people say as far as how the 8.8 is narrower than stock, it is but if you get a rim with 4" backspacing you can clear 35's easy.
Your better off with the 8.8..

get the 44. u can buy it and fuckin bolt the thing right to the jeep with no hassle whatsoever. and it already matches your gears and an 8.8 has such a marginal strength difference over the 44 it isnt worth it. and the damned thing has c-clips. so unless everytime u wanna remove the shafts u wanna drain the fluid and open the cover, get a 44. disk brakes also dont completly cancel out the c-clips. 8.8 doesnt match width, it doest match gears, it doesnt match perches, it has c-clips, and it has less options than a 44. a 44 is such a universal axle u cant go wrong. of course geno will say 8.8 if you dont plan on running 37s on it theres no reason whatsoever not to buy a 44 instead, and if u were to run 37s, i wouldnt trust the 8.8 anyway. But then youd have some really cool disk brakes to list in your sig.... oh and also the 8.8s housing is trash. Youll also have to weld the tubes to the diff center section unless u like spinning them, because ford thought it would be the best idea ever to just press the tubes in instead of welding

Thats fine, but personally I would put the 37's over on an 8.8 vs the 44.. However thats my opinion, and in a couple years when I do the 37 switch, I will have them on my 8.8, locked. Its just you have to regear anyways, so why do you even care about the gears? So yeah the 44 is bolt on, but for the cost of that you can get the 8.8 welded up and then ready to bolt on, but its got disk brakes.. Those are fucking expensive, and amazing. My truck stops better than it did stock, now with my 35's and disk brakes.. I dunno man, you already have the fucking axle, put it to good use.

well theres only one solution at this point, dual axle. use them both, u may need somekind of fancy driveshaft system.

Didnt read all of Metals post.
The housing only needs a couple tac welds, that takes about 5 mins.
Personally, mine are fully welded around the tubes but I just had my frind do that when he did the perches..
