Well, I bought my TJ back in September. So far other than stereo components all I've done is 31"x12.5" Pro Comp Mud Terrains and a trailer hitch. Over the last 4 or 5 days I've been feeling something strange when taking a turn at lower speeds. My buddies noticed it too and I'm not sure what to do about it.
I'm gonna check all the suspension components I can later on after work to see if anything is broken or loose.
Last time I went wheeling I was pretty rough on it. Though the problem didnt start till a week afterwards...or at least I didn't notice it until then.
When I take a turn in either direction I usually feel a slight thud and the car feels like it shifts in the opposite direction of the turn. Also a couple times I've felt like me steering got really loose out of nowhere and it wouldn't go where I tried to point it. This problem may even be in my head cuz it was only for a couple of second when I was turning and could be due to the large tires.
Any ideas on what this could be? or what it could end up costing me?

when you feel the "thud" while turning is it at a low speed and a sharp turn, or anytime you turn? Is the thud coming from the front or back?

Feels like the back...I just took a look under the car and nothing seems broken to me.

jack it up, and make sure the suspension is free hanging, and grab stuff with your hands and move it around, if somthing is loose or broken you'll feel it that way..

sounds like your rear end is locking up and slowly destroying itself. I just went through it with my jeep, the spyder gears were chipping teeth away and soon there will be nothing left. when you feel like you've lost steering that could be the gears acting as a posi rear end, both wheels are turning at the same speed and it makes the car want to go straight. take the rear cover off and look for chunks of metal and then look at your gears. hopefully its not this problem, if so it costs 150 bucks for a new spyders and carrier for an open diff and 250 for a posi from smiths 4x4 in franklin ct

No lift. No grinding or metal noises.
Just the thud of the car shifting.
First ill jack it up and check everything and if i absolutely have to Ill open up the diff and pray its not destroyed.
Though that should be able to be warranteed. Bought an extended warranty on the car (dunno why, had plans to mod....tho its still stock)

I jacked up the rear by my trailer hitch and let the rear axle droop......tried to move everything. The track bar seems fine. When i pulled on the right rear tire i could hear a slight movement. However i couldnt locate the problem.
It's looking like drthunder might be right. I'm gonna take it to jeep and get them to fix it under warranty.

Well last night the problem got far worse and whenever I turn now and sometimes when I'm not turning I get a loud grinding and a big jerk from the rear end.
Called a bunch of Jeep dealerships cuz I purchased the extended warranty and got an appointment to get it looked at tomorrow at north haven.
Looks like it is the rear diff after all.
I hope to god they don't give me shit about my tires. My previous car was a mitsubishi Evo and they would void warrantees if you looked at the car wrong..... I hear jeep is good tho.
