my xj is idling at about 300 rpms, and stalling when its cold... how to I up the idle?

Is your Temp sensor good? That would effect your cold idle. Does the 90 have an IAC on the TB? Is it bypassing as it should? It may have an inlet screen that could be cleaned.

honestly i know next to nothing about engines but from what I can gather something is wrong with my torque converter (hencing stalling when I stop/roll back) and something is wrong with the idle (idles at about 300 normally)
I dont know that ill ever bother to check the thermostat, but I would think the engine would still idle at the right rpm if it were bad?

Yes the t stat is most likely not the issue.

like cs said check the IAC . i dunno where it is on your beat motor

Jeep calls it an Idle speed stepper motor on older models. Its called the IAC on my 95 and mine is mounted on the throttle body next to the tps.

The idle shouldn't need adjustment unless ou are compensating for something else not working properly.

This isnt really a 'do it right' type of rig, its more of a 'just make it work' kind of rig... so with that said... how can I make this thing idle higher quickly and easily.
