Im building a new workbench. but cant figure out how tall to make it. any suggestions? Im thinking 40"s tall?
Its looking to be at 43" at the moment, but I think that will be a few inches too tall. 36"s feels too low, so 40" seems good. but I cant make up my damn mind about where to set this thing at, and its kinda important to get right because im tying it into the wall.
any input to help me decide would be great. I know a few inches doesnt seem like a big deal, but this is actually beginning to become an issue in moving this project forward.
BTW im 5'8" just FYI.

40 seems taller than the norm but I like it. I'm tall though.

also figure out what you want to work on, you might end up building a two tier. For larger stuff like axles you want a lower desk, not too low, but you dont want to be reaching up for shit when you are working on things.
My desk at work is a bit low for my tastes and I don;t know the measurement offhand...

Standing straight up, how far from the floor are your elbows? Add about 3-6" to that, it's a decent workbench hight. That's how my dad and grandfather built theirs.

I hate working on low tables/counter tops. It hurts my neck. Try going to Home Guido or something and see how high their tables are.

I would make it high enough so you don't have to bend your back to too much, and high enough so you can sit in a stool and work on stuff too.
