something went wrong with my jeep today, heard a loud bang, lost pressure to my clutch pedal and then regained pressure but now I cant push it in at all without alot of whining and can obviously tell its not meshing right as when i push the clutch in just a little bit with the engine running, it starts whining alot and can cant go very far before it starts getting very hard and starts hitting something. if the engine is off I can put the clutch in all the way.
Think theres a problem with a bearing somewhere or does it sound more hydraulic related ? (slave cylinder or something ?)
any knowledgable transmission people know ?

yeah i just saw this was a different thread. jeff you are confusing me! yea i got a parts thread describing same thing. So yea general conclusion is that bearing, which makes sense with the loud bang. Ordered a clutch kit made by LUK today, mine as well replace the original clutch while im in there... 130k on it plus bunch of wheeling and undergeared with 35's for awhile im sure its nearing the end of its life anyways. Plan on pulling it apart on my day off wendsday at work where i have a nice lift and heat. Hoping the flywheel is still in good shape.

let me know how the new clutch feels. debating swapping in a new one as well, and have been running the same for a while now. (wheeling 35's/stock gears/155K)
It'll be nice to get some inspiration for doing it.
also, you got a link to the kit you picked up?

It took me 2.5 hours to dissasemble everything at work (love having access to a shop) , hardest part was getting the shifter out of the tranny.... mine had some dirt around the edge of the retainer so it wouldnt just pop up. This was the first time ever removing the transmission and clutch and I was surprised how easy it is to do. Beats paying 500+ in labor costs to have someone do it! basically remove driveshafts, skid plate, exhaust, cps sensor, slave cylinder , all wire connectors, shifter linkage/shifter ball, starter, o2 sensor and all tranny bolts and your 90% there As I thought, the throwoutbearing was toast and mangled up, shifter fork was grinding up against the pressure plate. The clutch was basically down to the rivets and needed to be replaced and the flywheel was worn down enough to need to be turned or replaced (replacment is $82 at autozone)
