So i get back from teaching today to an e-mail from our public safety dept again telling us of incidents that have been happening on campus. I guess this past saturday and last night 2 different students were approached by a "light black or hispanic" person asking for a ride a few blocks away to jump start a car. While in the car told the driver i have a weapon and demanded money. Luckily the students agreed and no one was hurt. Another incident last night was that several unknown people were in our main parking lot (where admissions park) an were checking the interior of cars.
Earlier this year there were students entering a dorm an got held up by suspects asking for money an trying to get them away from the dorm.
Now im scared to leave my car parked on the street or in our parking lot. Any suggestions?? I already take my head unit off my counsel and keep all valuables out, but i still feel like my car could be a target. Sorry, little bit of a rant cuz i hate keep getting these e-mails from public safety.

Just like the soccer mom in Lebanon County....get a permit to carry and don't be afraid to wear it on the hip either! Look out for #1

I cant get a permit for a pistol or anything like that, but yet a rifle that i could get a permit for would be useless.

In PA you only need a permit if you want to carry the pistol concealed....if its out in the open you are good to go.

But dont you need to be 21 to get the permit first? I'm a year off so that wouldnt help...or is it different cuz atleast back home in CT you need to be 21 for the permit.

You may need to be 21 to have the permit but that doesn't stop you from possessing a pistol - the permit is only to carry a loaded handgun concealed.

Get a fake camera with a little blinky light and throw it in your car Get a leopard like in the original gone in 60 seconds and keep it in your car. Rig a gun hooked up to the door handle like in SAW to shoot someone when pulled.

You may need to be 21 to have the permit but that doesn't stop you from possessing a pistol - the permit is only to carry a loaded handgun concealed. that might be cool for PA, but the moment she steps foot in CT with a pistol on her without a permit she is breaking the law. Need to be 21 to possess a pistol unless given to you by a direct family member and illegal to carry and pistol on you open or concealed without the State Pistol Permit and have taken an NRA course. Mace or Taser would work better for those who live between two states. Avoid confrontations, park in an area that has plenty of light. Everyone yells Buy a Gun. Nothing wrong with that. Are you trained on how to use a gun, how you ever shot one before? What is worse then those who refuse to carry, are those who do carry and have no idea what to do when the situation comes around.

Good idea on the tazer - I think I saw one at sportsmansguide.com for under 30 bucks....thought about getting one just to have one.....
I have only ever been in one situation where I wish I had a gun/tazor or other weapon on me for protection...thankfully the other guy backed away...but when someone steps between you and your car door.....its time to consider protecting yourself.

Yeah, i agree w/ Phil. I have not taken a permit course, but about a month ago after Adam took his and talking with him im more interested in taking next year when i can. As for the mace yeah that would work walking around at night an such (not that i really do, if you take a look at reading ). Lately its just been e-mail after e-mail about something happening on campus an now im more nervous than ever. Ya'll are smart so figured id get the good advice.
