they are calling it real world, because they are building it in an average joes shop.
I think steve did most of his work outside, he has had his body off his frame before, he has a custom 14b and dana60, he swapped in a mopar 360. might not be of the caliber in the extreme shop but close.
Of course I would rather see an outside in the ice and snow winter xj build, with a rusty pile from new england.

oh shit, didnt notice that.
what the fuck is the point? sure you get bragging rights of having the biggest gearset in your front axle, but its huge and low pinion. a hp dana60 center would kick its ass in practicality, and ground clearance, and be on par in strength

probably cuz they are gonna run like 50" tires so they dont care about clearance.... "real world" remember

^^ yeah, thats my point. and you got to have custom stuff made for it to work (shafts ect..) if this an "everyman build" just slap a full width 60 under it and be done.

Of course I would rather see an outside in the ice and snow winter xj build, with a rusty pile from new england. x2 everytime they do a "real world" build, they end up doing somethig totally asinine, like this front 14 bolt nonsense.
