I used to have said problems on my 231 and 242, Here's what I did....
Drain all fluid from tcase, make sure u take off the top fill plug before you drain the fluid btw.
fill up with brand new dex 3. tighten everything back up....
spend 1 hour adjusting the linkage perfectly so that it actually shifts into the correct 4wd according to the shift bezel in the cab.
Done, mine shifts in and out as its supposed to sometimes popping into neutral and back to drive.
compared to before, i used to have to drive like 100ft before it would go back to 2wd, now it just goes right where the shifter is
