nice pic where did you go exactly Down through Kentucky, across the north end of Texas, to Grand Canyon, across Mojave Desert, through Death Valley, to Mt Whitney, then back across Death Valley, through Vegas, then up through Utah, across Colorado, and home. Took the BMW because 37mpg > 12mpg. Once I install a Mr Fusion on the Jeep for better milage I'm going to have to bring it to Death Valley. The park is the size of the entire state of Connecticut, lots of the roads in it are "4x4 only" (including a few extra scary ones labelled "short wheelbase only"), you can camp just about anywhere you want, and in the winter daytime temps are in the 60's rather than 120+. It's not all flat desert either, there's an 11,000+ foot mountain range right in the middle. Check out the "Backcountry Road" map: www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/upload/Backcountry%20Roads-2.pdf

Death Valley teaser pic. I'll post a link to a full album once I get it online. Where I'm standing is at +5,000'. The flat part with the itty bitty road is at -200'. The mountains that disappear into the clouds are at +11,000'.

it look warm there...id like to go lol Negative. In both of those pics the temperature was hovering around freezing. At night it was dropping down into the single digits. Personally I'd rather deal with the cold than heat though, you can always add another layer to keep warm but there's nothing you can do to cool off when it's 120 degrees (which was the temp the last time I was in Death Valley in early June). Interesting fact: "Desert" really only means a place where there is little precipitation and has nothing to do with temperature, and Antarctica is technically a desert. There is very little precipitation there, it just so happens that due to the cold temperatures it always falls as snow and never melts so it just keeps piling up slowly year after year.
