It is now officially time to do the clutch in my yj, however I am having trouble finding any parts stores who have any idea on what kit I need so here I am. Its for an 88 yj which had the booger ax-15 (internal slave) swaped in by the po. Does anyone know which kit is needed for this application, any recomendations on brands, where I can walk in and purchase it? Any help is greatly appreciated! Just want to get this done so my build can continue. THANKS!!

So the slave has been recently replace? If it hasnt, replace it, replace it, replace it. It would suck to have to pull the transmission back out to do that. If you are looking to get fancy, you can change it to an external slave cylinder by sourcing parts from a later model AX-15 with the external slave. You grab the bellhousing, clutch fork, throwout bearing, external slave and front bearing retainer. A Dakota bellhousing can also be used. Anyway, on to the clutch talk. Napa, Advance Auto and Auto Zone all carry the clutch set. You can buy it with or without the slave cylinder. You just need to decide if you want more of a high-performance clutch or not. Regardless, you should be able to walk right in and pick it up or at least order it.

is the clutch set the same across the board for the ax-15 with internal slave? the problem I am having is that I dont know what the donor was for this trans and nobody at the parts stores can tell me yay or nay about much of anything. I guess its just a pain when you try to ask a question of someone behind the counter and they look at you when you tell them its a swaped tranny. also doesnt help that this guy botched everything he ever did with this jeep, so i have no idea what im going to run into when i dig in here

Should be the same clutch set since they didnt change the input shaft splines (10 spline I believe). Just double check that the throwout bearing is the same one that comes out. It should have a number on it if you need to cross it over.

so if i understand correctly, the clutch kit for any year (or jeep application... ie cherokee or wrangler with the internal slave) ax-15 will have the same setup and use the same clutch kit... the only possible difference would be the to bearing>? so i could get one for either a yj or xj and it would work properly with no mod?

I believe so. The input shaft should be the same spline and I believe they used the same flywheel as well. You could always pull the clutch and get the numbers off the pressure plate and throwout bearing just to be safe.
