got an 89 XJ(wagoneer) and the other day i go to take a right turn and the engine died and i lost all control .luckily i was able to pull the steering hard enought o avoid slamming head on into a van.... so im wondering what this is...i thought it was maybe the cat because when i started it back up it hesitated quite a bit and then the RPMs surged when it turned over. it would putter like a lawnmower then after i gave it a shitload of gas it finally got a little better. i punched out the cat inside and hooked up the exhaust again it ran fine for 5 minutes and then it died!then when i went to start it again, it really sputtered like a mofo and then when i floored the gas it surged then smoothed out. WTF is wrong here? is it the fuel pump or something stupid like a fuel filter?

Seems wierd for an IAC to act up while cornering though. A buddy of mine had a blazer that would crap out always while taking right hand turns.......turned out to be a short in the fuel pump wiring. Every time he made a right turn, it was pulling on something and shorting it out, so it would sputter and die. Check your fuel pressure at the rails too with a gauge and see where it reads.

i checked it out today and i discovered about 3 or 4 vacuum leaks from various places, i changed the oil and replaced the cracked hoses and fittings...it drove fine for a while then all of a sudden ....pfffttt!!! dead again,BUUUUTTTT.......it fired right back up and didnt hesitate at all after that, just seemed like when i was at a light the idle would go up and down pretty good from 500 rpm to 1200rpms and then it would bog out... start it again and drove fine the rest of the way home i even threw in some injector cleaner and it hepled a little bit but it still conks out every now and then all i saw where there IAC was just a wire plug didnt really see a valve....so i will try to get the pic up of the TB to show you guys maybe i was looking at the wrong place i dont know....

well i cleaned the iac and found out the EGR valve is sticking... and the spring that returns the throttle to idle speed is rusted to shit...so i put a return spring on the throttle cable and it helped a little but whats happening is when i pull up to a light it (RPMS) jump up and down and it feels like the jeep wants to take off while i have my foot on the brake ! i swear this thing is possessed!
