so i borrowed a multimeter and went out to my jeep for the first time since sunday. put the leads on the batt and got 12V. fired up first shot like nothing happened. read 14V at the batt. wtf?
turned it off, then back on. only 11.5V running. off, back on. same thing, 11.5V.
tom and i figured my quick-off neg. terminal was created my 'sometime no start' issue that happened every once in a while, so i figured maybe i was getting a bad connection and put my spare terminal on the neg spot and cleaned it, and cleaned up the pos one as well. fired it up, still 11.5V
whats next? i read in my FSM i need some thing to load up the alt to check for a charge, but if im only reading 11V and HAD 14V before, its gotta be a wire right? im retarded at wiring sometimes and cant figure where the wires are on the alt and where they go. i see a black that goes to a block then the neg terminal but no live lead.

Heavy Metal Syndrome.
Check the ground for the battery, check the main power cable. Mine had a similar issue and it was just the ground.
Also you prolly know this but if you start the jeep and disco the battery and it does not stay running you have an alternator issue. It should run w/o the battery connected.

My ground going from the battery to the fender, went while i was away and i used a piece of sub woofer ground wire to fix it.

I used to start it with a screw driver. one mornign started it up and stripped off the last piece of metal that allowed the key to work. My ignition was so hacked that it would stick all the way foward (started still engaged). So im like oh fuck i gotta shut this off. disco'd the battery and it kept running.

anyway, i get 12.5V at the batt, engine off. engine on, i get 11.8V at the batt, and 11.8V at the alternator output post. turn the motor off, i still get 12V+ at the batt. with the engine running i loaded the alt (multimeter still running from the output post and neg batt terminal) by turning on my a/c and lights and i lost about .8V.
last thing i need to check is the engine computer to see if the voltage regulator in that is dead, but i doubt it.
