fixed my rear axle whoas today. was at friends shop and they do heavy equipment work, took some hardened steel that they use as ware bars on excavator buckets and bent it with a torch and welded to axle making a nice lip. as you can see the bottom 2 bolts that were one half exposed now have plenty of meat behind them. forgot what its called but i was told this plate is 2x harder then normal steel just a comparison:

yeah i need a cover now, i had to thow the shity one back on because i couldn't scrounge up a new one in time.
doug, im going to scoop up a stock HD cover.. i think dodge or chevy had a thick one, and then weld a strip of this hard metal up the middle and move the fill plug. for a total junkyard cost of about $10 or free if my buddy has one lying around

front 44 covers are about 3 times as thick as their rear counterparts
