why a $1200 housing? for what?
edit: i have a regular dana 60 in a late 70's dodge ram sitting in my yard my dad said i can use but if i can get a high pinion i figured that would be better for clearance

i also just heard from a friend that the high pinion rear dana 60's are weaker than the regular ones... anybody know if thats true? I think you need to do some searching on what axles came in what. Do some research on gears, lockers etc because that stuff gets very pricey too. You dont usually see high pinion rear axles because they are weaker since they run on the coast side in the rear, as opposed to the drive side of the ring gear in front. As far as I know, they dont make factory Dana 60 rears in hp. Unless you want to build a custom housing or you need the high pinion for driveline angles, you dont have much choice unless you go Hi-9 or other custom axles...which doesnt appear to be in your budget from your first post.

there was never a high pinion 60 offered in any production vehicle.
and they are weaker when used in the rear compared to low pinion versions.
but will still withstand 37's-38's all day long with a maniac behind the wheel.

i think i might go back to my orioginal plan of dana 44's front and rear.. the whole thing is im eventually going to be putting a 350 small block with a 4L60-E (newer version of the 700r tranny) and a different transfer case.. pretty much at some point i will be gutting the jeep and replacing its drivetrain... and obviously axles is a must, but i want low gear range
Edit: yeah Will i guess you can go ahead and move this to the tech section lol
