win. Very realistic goal, lots of younger enlisted people go out and buy nice cars, just make sure you can afford the payments and insurance.
suggestions? Go used, shop around, dont just but one "to buy one". Buy one that you can afford, and that you want.

Agreed, every base/post I have been to has tons of used car dealerships because soldiers eyes are bigger than their wallets.

Just remember that you're going to be paying a car payment plus insurance and since you're financing you are going to need to have full collision and as a young man it is going to $$$$$

if theres any way you could afford it, try to find an 07 instead, they came with a better gearset out of the factory and i think a couple of other little things that were better

yes 07 is better than the 06. also you better be sure you can afford insurance. car payment will be 300 somethin a month plus full coverage on an sti to a male in NY under 25 will cost you probably over 3 grand a year, maybe more

Eww. I was just talking to a buddy from school about this and just can't justify why anyone would want to spend that much on a car that can't take a beating anyway. The only way to get them to move fast is to drop the clutch at 6 grand from a stop. Other than that they are nothing special. Plus they can't take those high rpm drops very long, have known/heard of many stories of losing transmissions.
If it were me and I was going to blow 15,20,25 grand or so on a car I'd get an 02 camaro and throw a set of turbos on it. That's a car no-one else has and would completely demoralize a sti and still have a bunch of money left over. Just my 2 cents. Then you could do burnouts and drifting too with ease.

And a v8 sounds ten times better but I understand everyone has their own taste.

Sti's arent meant to be drag cars, they will outhandle a camaro any day of the week. Also the transmissions aren't the problem with launching it all day. The sti trannys were built by prodrive and ive never heard of anybody breaking them. For a couple grand i would throw a GT35R in there to push over 500awhp and smoke muscle cars all day while still being able to outhandle mostly anything on the road. For the price you can't really buy anything near all around performance as an STI or EVO.

I know where I would spend my money and it's clear where you would spend yours. Not sure why you haven't heard about the weak trannys yet but the news is out. Like I said it's all about your taste. Personally wouldn't be caught dead owning one.

Last i heard the STI 6 speeds are bulletproof. The 5spd WRX trannys absolutely suck but i have never heard of anybody blowing up the prodrive 6 speeds.
