overheating

Here is the water pump that came out of my 99. Do the math.

All this talk of sludge that took two flushings to remove, says either someone used an assload of stop leak (Chris and I found over an inch of the crap in the bottom of my old radiator), and it's clogging your system somewhere, OR, you have Dave's water pump. My guess is that sexy looking water pump pictured above.

try changing your radiator bearings and see what happens... if you need help finding them, ask jerry bransford... im sure he knows where they are.

seriously tho, it definitely sounds like a water pump issue like pictured above

if the water pump had no fins left, how would he be getting flow to his heater core? did you ever make sure there was no air in the system yet?

There would still be some flow, just would be very weak.

Everything was working for a couple days. Drove home last night in 4wd, heat blasting, got a couple blocks from home, temp. shot up to 250... I push on regardless of risk, and as i'm approaching my house, temp. drops back to 215, check gauges light goes off, so i'm thinking okay, it seems plausible that perhaps the thermostat just didn't open when it should have...
Well, until today...
Bought some coolant...let it run for a bit... No heat, it was as if my a/c was running.
Anyone else thinking heater core? Would this cause it to overheat? Could it be more than one problem? Is waterpump still everyones number one guess?

that reused thermostat could be bad, it wouldnt have hurt to change it when you opened it up the first time. they only cost like 5 bucks if that and you had everything opened up anyway... check/replace your water pump while youre in there next time too

Changing it tomorrow. picked one up today...
180 degree instead of 195.

I guess i'll just start with the cheapest and trial and error my way up.

my brothers 5.2 zj was doing this. Would shoot up high then dive down to running temp and kept doing that. Replaced the water pump and its good to go. It could be that the water pump fins are gone so its not pulling coolant.
