i found a 78-79 ford hp60
fancy long drivers side tube, and my choice of single or drw hubs
4.10's
cheap as hell
how can i keep this thing narrow
i remember hearing something about the drw hubs and narrowness
and also cutting just passenger side tube
but seems that would put the diff in my oil pan

might be worth it for me to pick up and hold onto
but if i get a front 60 it opens up this whole string of expensive stuff i need to do to my jeep

What people do is cut the long side down and run DRW hubs. Whats great about it is that it really locates that driver side front bracket off of the housing and close to the inner C. The DRW hubs keep the lock out from being smashed on rocks, especially with H2 beadlocks. You can basically run a 60 in stock Dana 30/44 width.

I'm not sure, but I think if someone were to go that route, it would be better to go with a post 79 front since the diff (as you were saying) would be way too far in. If you kept it full width, it would line up niiiiiiice!
